QQI Level 5 Certificate in Beauty Therapy – 5M3471.

New for 2018/19: These qualifications combine the full range of skills and knowledge for learners seeking employment or self-employment in the spa industry and wider beauty and leisure industries. Learners qualify in areas such as holistic massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils, stone therapy, spa and hydrotherapy treatments. Qualifications are recognised by all relevant professional bodies within the beauty industry for membership and insurance purposes.


2018/19 Applications are now open, and free. CAO points not required. Grant and Social Welfare funding available. Course Contents

  • Anatomy and Physiology (5N0749) Level 5 QQI.
    • Understand the structure and function of the human body and the interrelationship between its systems.
  • Body Massage and Figure Analysis (5N3465) Level 5 QQI.
    • Prepare for and carry out a full body massage, understand how to carry out an effective figure analysis treatment and recognise the interrelationship between body massage and figure analysis treatments, give appropriate aftercare advice to include advice on nutrition, exercises and suitable stretches.
  • Business Administration Skills (5N1610) Level 5 QQI.
    • The administration requirements of a range of organisations to enable the learner to operate effectively under supervision in a variety of administration contexts.
  • Manicure, Pedicure and Waxing (5N3467) Level 5 QQI.
    • Provide beauty therapy treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the beauty therapy industry. Opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment.
  • Nutrition (5N2006) Level 5 QQI.
    • Understand the nutritional composition of food and the effects of food and nutrition on a persons health and well-being. It also assists the learner to develop the academic and vocational language related to nutrition.
  • Skin Care, Eye Treatments and Make-Up (5N3466) Level 5 QQI.
    • Provide beauty therapy treatments to the general public and to gain employment in the beauty therapy industry. Opportunities for learners to develop a range of skills, techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in employment.
  • Spa and Body Treatments, Diploma (QAN 601/0586/0) Level 3 ITEC.
  • Communications (5N0690) Level 5 QQI.
    • Communicate verbally and non-verbally in standard everyday tasks and in work-related tasks, operating independently while under general direction.
  • Work Experience (5N1356) Level 5 QQI.
    • Participate in the workplace for a limited time, carrying out work-related tasks independently while under general direction. Prepare yourself for industry, prepare your CV (and online LinkedIn profile), practice interview skills, and gain invaluable experience on your own work placement.

Erasmus+

Entry Requirements

  • CAO points not required.
  • All applicants will be required to attend an interview. An offer of a place on this course is contingent on the applicant meeting the minimum entry requirements set out here, and satisfactory presentation at interview.
  • Leaving Certificate or equivalent. For mature applicants appropriate experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.

Work Experience

Work experience is an integral part of this course. Each student is responsible for securing their own work placement. The dates and duration will be specified by the College in September.

    • €100 Deposit + €50 QQI Fees + €150 Registration + €330 ITEC Exam Fees + €580 other costs per year.
